A few years ago, Mr. Lovey surprised me with a spectacular set of MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Eyes pencils. It was an unexpected, yet wonderful gift; I've had a soft spot for MAKE UP FOR EVER eyeliners since then. You can imagine my delight at receiving the brand new MAKE UP FOR EVER 'The Ultimate Eye Liner Collection' collection for Holiday 2012!
The MAKE UP FOR EVER 'The Ultimate Eyeliner Collection' has fourteen different eyeliners and a double barrel pencil sharpener. The collection is packaged in a fun colored pencil-inspired box with a flip top. The products are securely held in a slide-out tray.
There are seven different MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Eyes pencils included: 23L, 11L, 3L, 12L, 5L, 2L, and 0L. Aqua Eyes are MAKE UP FOR EVER's best-selling eyeliners. Their waterproof formula was originally created for water ballet performers. The formula sets well and has good lasting power when worn with my usual eye makeup and primer.
Three MAKE UP FOR EVER Khol Pencils are included: 1K, 9K, and 4K. The formula is pigmented, smooth, and smudgeable. The khols are different from the Aqua Eyes liners, as khols are meant to be smudged (e.g. in a smoky eye). Because of this, the Kohl Pencils do not set as firmly as the Aqua Eyes pencils. While I would prefer Aqua Eyes for everyday eye lining, the Kohl pencils are superior for distributing color on my waterline.
The MAKE UP FOR EVER Double Pencil Sharpener has two different sharpeners: one for regular pencils and one for thicker pencils. It has a clear lid so shavings are stored until you're ready to toss them. The MAKE UP FOR EVER logo is printed on the side.
There are four MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Liners included: 4, 7, 15, and 13. The Aqua Liners are liquid eyeliners with a precision point applicator. The applicator is mostly firm with some bend. The typical line drawn will be of medium thickness, though it can vary with the amount of pressure. The pigmented and long-lasting formula is truly waterproof, it's the kind that dries to a plastic-like film, as opposed to a creamy finish. It can last for hours on my lids without primer. With primer, it can last an entire day. I wouldn't mind having a full set of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Liners!
The MAKE UP FOR EVER 'The Ultimate Eyeliner Collection' ($160 for $277 value) is a true highlight in the MAKE UP FOR EVER Holiday 2012 collection. I really liked how this set allowed me to sample three different eyeliner formulas. The color selection is full of basic and fun colors, all of which are wearable. The set would be a great collection builder for a novice, as well as a fun set for a seasoned beauty lover. Thanks for reading! Have you tried any MAKE UP FOR EVER eyeliners? What is your favorite formula and/or color? What are your favorite MAKE UP FOR EVER products?
Love, Dovey.

ooo that MUFE Aqua Liner in 7 is stunning!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, I think so too! :)
DeleteI love eyeliners, haha. Lately though I've been feeling like I simply need more black ones. It's so weird :P Do you like these better than the UD ones?
ReplyDeleteHi Larie! One can never have too many black liners :) I'm assuming you're referring to the pencil liners? It's hard to say which is better, as they're both pretty comparable. I think UD has a more 'gliding' texture, while MUFE may set a bit better (I should do a side by side test on my eyes to check one day)!
DeleteAh, okay. Thanks, Dovey! Good to know!
DeleteYup, #7 is stunning! I've only ever tried their Aqua Liner, but I think I might have to pick the liquid up now.
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, I tried the liquid recently (in black) before this set; I like how it lasts even longer!
DeleteThat's quite a collection! The Aqua Eyes colors look like fun, and the liquid liners look gorgeous. Maybe I should try my hand at those, again.
ReplyDeleteHi Liesl, thanks for the comment! Seeing everything lined up has inspired me to start experimenting with my MUFE collection again too :)
DeleteBeautiful swatches as always, Dovey! 11L is such an unusual color. I'm sure it would look lovely worn as winged liner with just a touch of black mascara!
ReplyDelete♥ Jessica
Hi Jessica, Thank you! I do think 11L is pretty too--- it's almost a bit ultraviolet :)
DeleteOh boy, that 5L is a must-have! What an extravagant set!
ReplyDeleteHi Sunny- 5L seems like an old gold that's very you :)
DeleteWhat an amazing gift that was. :) They seem amazing x
ReplyDeleteHi Coco, thank you!
DeleteThese colors are so in tune with my mood this winter.
ReplyDeleteThey all look very wearable.
Hi Kate, nicely put! They are winter worthy and wearable :)
DeleteI want that under my tree! ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Anne- it would make a nice Christmas surprise to be sure!
DeleteI only have 1 MUFE eyeliner (aqua liner in black) and I think it's very long wearing! No 7 looks so sexy ;)
ReplyDeletexoxo Meryl
Hi Meryl, 1 is the classic! 7 does seem to be getting a lot of love, for good reason!
Delete23L is so pretty. I find these types of liners are so ideal for brightening the eye in a subtle, natural way. They have the eye opening effect of a matte light liner on the waterline and the brightening affect of a shimmer shadow without actually having tons of shimmer on your lid. I like that it's not too gold and not too pink, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine, Thanks for the comment, and very well said! I also like the slight pink/champagne effect.
DeleteOooooo I would say this is the ultimate must-have, perfect for the upcoming holidays!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty blog u have, lovely girly content, it's my first time here!!:)
Happy Sunday!

DeleteOMG, look at all that. =D
ReplyDeleteIn years past I used to just want the brown and black liners and thought colours were unwearable, but now they all look amazing and absolutely necessary in a beauty blogger kit. Love the photos and swatches!
Hi Liz, Thank you so much! I was very much a black liner only person until recently; I've been wanting experiment with color too and an eyeliner is a nice place to start!
DeleteBeautiful photos and swatches :) What an amazing collection. This would make such a great gift for someone who loves makeup!
