Happy Halloween! For the occasion, I'm sharing an old painting of mine from middle school art class. It's tempera paint; I'm sure many of you can relate to the large red, yellow, blue, white, and black containers of paint that are a mainstay in grade school. I've always been a believer that each of us carries an ingrained artistic style that can manifest in anything from a school art project to blog photography. Looking back on this painting from a Halloween past makes me smile, because I recognize my penchant for vibrant colors and shadow blocking even at a younger age.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Halloween day. In light of current events, I'd like to mention that my thoughts and best wishes go out to friends, family, everyday people, and heroes working through the hurricane's aftermath. Thanks for reading! Do you have Halloween plans? Will you be amongst those celebrating a delayed Halloween this year? Have you ever looked back on artwork from your childhood and recognized stylistic tendencies?
Love, Dovey.
Very cute picture! My art style matches my makeup style- simple, neutral, classic :)
ReplyDeleteHi Martha, Thank you! I can definitely imagine what you described based upon the looks you post on Planet Martha :)
DeleteHappy Halloween, Dovey! I can see how much artistic talent you've always had from the painting! So lovely of you to share it with us :)

DeleteThat is awesome! I wish I saved my stuff as a kid! Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteHi FT&C, who knows, it might be hiding somewhere still! Happy Halloween to you too!
DeleteThis is so cute! My art style's kind of all over the place, experimental which kinda is my style in make up too? When I feel like it, I really like to experiment with my blog and makeup, hehe.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween to you too! We had a costume contest at school, and it was just so great to see everyone so cheery and in such funny costumes. I dressed up as well. :)
Hi Maggie, Thank you and I can see what you mean about experimental from the PDJ! I think that's exciting to see and read because I never know what to expect :)
DeleteP.S. Loved the panda costume
Happy Halloween.
ReplyDeletei see an eye on the Pot!!!
Hi Mallard Duck, Happy Halloween to you too! LOL on the eye; I hadn't noticed that before :)
DeleteI love this! And I do see that penchant so very clearly. It's awesome that you kept it to reflect back. I think I managed to toss most of my "artwork" at some point. The only thing left is my writing... and I've been too scared to look back on some of those.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a lovely Halloween!
Hi Liz! Thank you so much and I hope you had a great Halloween too! Gosh, I'm sure I have old writing hanging around somewhere, but I'm not sure if I could bring myself to read them either :P
DeleteHi Dovey, I love your painting from middle school! I kept only a couple of pieces of artwork from middle school -- it's fun to look back at my untrained attempts at art lol. I'm so glad I can scan these things now, just in case anything ever happened to the originals. I hope you had a great Halloween!
