August Makeup Favorites
My favorites this month centered around warm brown colors for the eyes and a newfound old foundation love. I rediscovered Chanel Perfection Lumiere in B20 (reviewed here) and enjoyed the light, long-lasting, and matte formula. The color is not as good of a match for me as NARS Sheer Glow, however it's a reasonable one now that my summer skin is warmer than usual. I also found that my skin breaks out less when I wear Chanel Perfection Lumiere. Illamasqua Naked Rose (reviewed here) was my go-to blush this month. I used MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Brow in #25 Ash (formula reviewed here) for my brows. It's easy to apply, and is long lasting. It does fade towards the end of my workday, but less than the powder I was using previously. MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Shadow in #2E (formula reviewed here) is a dark brown color that I used as a thickly drawn eyeliner. Simply Vera Vera Wang Transforming Eyeshadow Duo in #404 was my most used eyeshadow palette (reviewed here). NARS Lola Lola eyeshadow single (purchased at the NARS 413 Bleecker flagship store) is a gorgeous neutral brown that leans a hint red. MAC Satin Taupe eyeshadow is a classic color that I just purchased. I used it for looks that were slightly cooler than the other browns. My favorite lipstick was MAC Pure Zen, a nude peachy pink from the recent MAC Cremesheen and Pearl Collection. It could be my favorite MAC color yet!
Thanks for reading! What foundation are you using lately? What kind of colors have you been reaching for?
Love, Dovey.
Now I want to try Chanel Perfection Lumiere! I've been digging the new Giorgio Armani one, but when the sun is shining I don't think I get enough SPF from it, so I stick to Dior Hydra Life BB cream on those days :) I'm grasping the end of summer with warm shades, but I'm slowly transitioning to autumn!
ReplyDeleteHi Sunny --- I wish I could wear the GA too :) I haven't tried Hydra Life BB either, but that sounds wonderful too!
DeleteOh great faves! I didn't know that Vera Wang had a cosmetic line, I like the combo! I've heard so many good stuff about the mufe aqua brow and the aqua shadow pencils. They look great!
ReplyDeleteHi BellaChique, thanks, I'm really loving MUFE lately!
DeleteI've been on a new foundation-hunt recently and have been wanting to try the Perfection Lumiere for quite a while now, but for some reason I haven't actually gotten around to doing it. Actually, now that I think about it, I may have a sample packet around here somewhere...
ReplyDeleteHi Becca, I hope you find that sample! At first I wasn't a PL fan, but it grew on me :)
DeleteLola Lola has always been among my all time favorite shades! Wonderful choice :)
ReplyDeleteI must admit, despite my happiness with Anastasia's products, you really have me curious about MUFE's Aqua Brow!
♥ Jessica
Hi Jessica, high five! I can't believe I missed out on Lola Lola for so long! I've never tried Anastasia, but she is supposed to be the brow queen :)
DeleteYou're making me want to pull my Perfection Lumiere bottle out again, but I think I will wait until the weather cools down a little more. I wore it last fall to perfection, so I think it will probably work out again this year. I hope. I also have my eye on the MUFE brow gel, but I'm waiting for them to show up in stores first :D
ReplyDeleteHi Larie, yay! I hope you love it again too :) I didn't realize they hadn't showed up in stores yet. I did order my second one from online, so that seems to make sense.
DeleteI'm enjoying Burberry sunset Devon lipstick and actually all Burberry stuff I purchased :D. Bourjois healthy mix and healthy mix serum foundation, Nars ramatuelle and l'oreal full definition voluminous mascara. Many new foundations just came out and I start craving to try. Great post! Xx
ReplyDeleteHi Joane, Sunset Devon is gorgeous! It sounds like you have a number of beautiful products for the month!
DeleteI love the photograph, what a beautifully formatted favourites! :) I haven't tried any MAC eyeshadows but if I did, Satin Taupe would be right at the top of my list. I really want to try Illamasqua blushes too!
ReplyDeleteThanks sleepandwater! It took me forever to try Satin Taupe, even though I know it's a MAC all-time favorite kind of color.
DeleteAs always Dovey, I love your choices, especially the lip products/lipstick! I tried Perfection Lumiere when it first came out ... and hated it on my dry skin 'but' I tried it some time ago, with lots of thick cream underneath and it really looked good - I was impressed. This foundation is a cameleon for sure. Beside that I can't find a colour match (too dark), I like it D:. I don't really have a favourite foundation this month, rather a tinted moisturizer: Lierac - best TM I've ever used.
ReplyDeleteHi AB, I can see why you might not like PL with dry skin--- since I love it for being matte on my combo skin even during summer! Color match is an issue for me too, but it's pretty close
DeleteI'm happy with my Anastasia brow powder but several blogs I read have talked abt MUFE brow gel recently - peaking my interest. Current foundation is NARS Sheer Matte in Mont Blanc or a BB cream - 3lab or SkinFood.
ReplyDeleteStill reaching for my bright pinks & light colors on my eyes. I know it won't be long before I'm reaching for berries & plums like NARS Sin.
Hi Kristi, Love your foundation choices! NARS Sheer Glow is long-standing favorite of mine and I do get use out of my 3Lab too. I'm looking forward to plums too; Sin sounds perfect!
