With a name like 'Disobey', Illamasqua powder blusher in Disobey sounds like it's up to some mischief. And indeed, it is. If you take a look at the pan, you might wonder what a bronzer is doing in a blush lineup! That said, I'm not one to judge a box by its cover, so I gladly picked up this bronzer blush for use in face contouring.
The Illamasqua blush is packaged in the typical black plastic warped square packaging. If you hold your Illamasqua blush in the sun, you can see a cool prismatic effect.
Illamasqua powder blusher in Disobey has the smooth texture that I've come to expect from Illamasqua products. Another draw for me is that Illamasqua's powder blusher has a different ingredient formula from typical blushes. Most powder blush and bronzer formulas cause me to break out, and I'm always searching for one that won't. If you're interested in the ingredient list, Illamasqua is one of the few companies that openly lists them on their website (thank you).
As I mentioned before, Illamasqua powder blusher in Disobey looks much like a bronzer. It's a soft matte golden brown as you can see from the swatch below. It looks quite similar to NARS Bronzer in Laguna from the swatch below, though you can see that Laguna has shimmer and is a bit more yellow and less peach than Illamasqua Disobey. Tarte 12-Hour Amazonian Clay Shimmer Blush in Buff is another blush that looks quite brown and bronzer-like in the pan. However, you can see it looks more orange and less tan than Illamasqua Disobey.
I'm looking forward to incorporating Illamasqua powder blusher in Disobey into my routine. It is a bit lighter than a traditional bronzer (maybe that's why it classifies as a blush), however it has some contouring capacity. It would show up best on lighter skin tones and I think it will be more evident on my winter skin. Other than wishing Disobey was a tad darker, I have no complaints. It's a great product. Thanks for reading! Have you tried Illamasqua Disobey? Do you think it's a blush or a bronzer? What are your favorite contouring products?
Love, Dovey.
i think it is a bronzer! lol. I always meant to look at this in person but always forget to - so glad to see you feature it! I have way too many favorite bronzers to name but lately i'm enjoying lush charisma skin tint and shockingly mac charcoal brown for contour!
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce, Haha, thanks for confirming my suspicions. I actually bought this sight unseen; it looked promising from the swatch on Sephora and a good review from The Non-Blonde helped push me over the edge. I've wanted Charcoal Brown for a while now; my interest is piqued again!
DeleteI don't contour--but I did just get a similar bronzer from Jouer that I reviewed. It's a medium matte golden-brown as well and it provides just a hint of color and definition to my skin. I have been loving it, so I'm sure that I'd love this one too!
ReplyDeleteHi Becca, I thought the Jouer bronzer was so pretty, and practical. I'm not serious about contouring every day, but it's fun to do when I have the time :)
DeletePromising! At the moment I use either Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess or MAC Harmony. Illamasqua is painfully unavailable here, though I did manage to score Swinger (the gold foil polish) on ASOS a couple of days ago (yesss!). I'll check their other stuff out soon, but it'll majorly depend on my luck because ASOS doesn't stock everything (and sometimes it's rather overpriced too).
ReplyDeleteHi Sunny, I loved every single picture I saw of swinger (despite me not being much of a gold person!) Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess is a classic :)
DeleteThis looks so pretty! You're right, I definitely wouldn't have classified that as a blusher when I first saw it, but its a gorgeous color!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelly! I wonder if it could be a blusher for darker tones? But even then it doesn't really have pink. Bronzer it is!
DeleteI think it's a bronzer! Isn't there an Illamasqua lipstick called Obey? It would be fun to put them next to each other, "Obey | Disobey". (Even though the colors don't necessarily coordinate/match, but it's funny isn't it?)
ReplyDeleteHi MAggie, I'm not sure about obey, but I love the Obey Disobey idea; haha that would be fun :D
DeleteThis is gorgeous... this looks like the kind of bronzer I'd use as a blush, anyway :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah, why not? I'm trying to imagine a look with this as a blush now :)
DeleteSometimes I've been caught off guard by what I thought was a blush or bronzer turning out to look like the other on my cheeks! I bought MAC Equilibrium to be used as a fall blush and it works better as a contouring product instead. And I have some bronzers that have so much pink that they act better as blushes. I think this is one of those mysterious products that work differently for different people. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Liz, I like your assessment (and MAC equilibrium too). I think slightly pinked or peached bronzers are pretty and somewhat more natural too!
