NARS Liberte (....Fraternite Egalite!), a blush review

While NARS Fall 2012 starts trickling in, I thought I would give one last hurrah for NARS Liberté blush. I'd been eyeing this striking burnished orange blush ever since it first came out in the NARS Summer 2012 collection. I almost feel as if it is a matching piece for my NARS eyeshadow trio in Ramatuelle (reviewed here).

When hearing NARS Liberte, one can't help but resurrect "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity), the tripartite French motto with origins in the French revolution. LIberty is personified in Eugène Delacroix's painting 'La Liberté Guidant Le Peuple' (Liberty Leading the People, read more about it here). I like to indulge in a little imagination and imagine that NARS Liberte is the color of well worn flag red.

NARS Liberte blush  is a pigmented matte burnished orange. When compared with the crayon orange swatch of MAC Optimistic Orange Cremeblend blush, you can see that NARS Liberte is considerably more terracotta and less juicy in character. I've compared Liberte to NARS Deep Throat. You can see how much more dramatic it is when compared to the delicate pinky peach of Deep Throat.

Oranges made quite an impact this summer, and I can see a color like NARS Liberte being able to drift well into pumpkin season. I'm happy to finally have this in my collection. Thanks for reading! Do you have any favorite orange blushes in your collection? Did you have a chance to try NARS Ramatuelle this summer 2012? Which products are you looking forward to in the Fall 2012 collection?

Love, Dovey.

  4. Beautifully pigmented but perhaps too pigmented for pale little me. I think it's funny how a delicate blush shade like Deep Throat has an anything but delicate name! Now I know I want it so who cares about the name right?...

Ooh pretty! I hadn't really seen the appeal in this blush until I read your review...terracotta huh? So does it act sort of as a blusher/bronzer? I must check this out now!

    1. Hih Becca! It's more of a blush, although it does have the slightly tanning effect that orange toned blushes do. It's a different breed--- worth playing around with if you have a tester :)

  6. Gorgeous blush! If I were buying, I would have snagged Liberte for sure. I love how it's definitely in the orange family but not orange-orange, if you know what I mean. :)

    1. Hi Liz, I enjoyed the 'if I were buying'! You're right about straight up orange... lots and lots of blending necessary!

  7. Liberte looks beautiful! And it definitely definitely coordinates well with Ramatuelle. I'm kind of a history nerd, and French history is by far my favorite European history ever. Your allusions in this post just made me smile ear to ear :)

  8. I love your title! I almost named my post about the blush the same :) And I'm so happy you referenced the Delacroix painting, it's one of my absolute favorites.

  9. I love Ramatuelle, if Nars could bring out the apricot in a full size eyeshadow I would be the happiest of bunnies.

Liberte or Silvana? I want a terracota blush and am not sure which one to go for.
