NYX Stick Blush in Hibiscus review + swatches

Recently I had the chance to try a few new goodies from NYX. Amongst them, I found a new summer love: NYX Stick Blush in Hibiscus. NYX stick blushes are swivel-up sticks containing cream blush. You might know of my fondness for NARS multiples; I guess I just can't say no to creamy makeup in stick form. Inspired by the concept of a 'multiple', I've used NYX Hibiscus as both a cheek and lip product. I'm pleased to report that it wears quite well both ways! In fact, I love the way it looks on my lips. It becomes the perfect nude peachy beige color.

The name Hibiscus evokes a summery mood in itself. It brings back memories of Hawaii. Our hotel had a garden filled with hundreds of hibiscus blooms (see below). I don't remember seeing a hibiscus the color of NYX Hibiscus, however there are several hundred species of Hibiscus in the world, so I'm sure one of them would be a match to the makeup!

NYX Hibiscus is a warm melon without shimmer. It has notes of peach, pink, and beige mixed in. It's a low key color that would likely wear well on warm to neutral skin. I generally prefer a little warmth of this sort in my summer makeup to complement the season. When examining my swatch, keep in mind that my skin is a bit pink, which will cause the colors to pull slightly orange. I've compared Hibiscus to another NYX Stick Blush in Tea Rose. Tea Rose is a medium rosy pink. It's easy to see that Hibiscus has orange tones. However, when compared to the orange-beige Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Coffee Cake from my collection, you can see that Hibiscus is more pink. Hence, NYX hibiscus is a beige melon in my book. The texture of the NYX stick blushes seem to be thicker, stickier, and more pigmented than Maybelline's Dream Bouncy blushes or NARS multiples. They do take a little more work to blend because of the texture, but the color payoff is worth it. As I mentioned above, they do make good lip colors too due to the pigmentation and thickness of the product.

NYX Stick Blush in Hibiscus is a welcome addition to my summer makeup color collection. I just hope the makeup police don't come after me for my off-label lip usage of the product! Thanks for reading! Have you tried any NYX Stick Blushes? Have you converted cheek products to lip products or vica versa? What are some of your favorite summer blushes?

Love, Dovey.

  1. OOH, I think Hibiscus is my favourite colour of the collection. I always love understated blushes. I'm glad it works well as both a lip product and blush - most times multi-functional cosmetics work well only one way or the other! xx

  3. Hibiscus flowers are so pretty. They do come in a multitude of colors! The oranges ones are my favorite :) This blush looks very lovely - very summery, indeed. This summer, for blush, I've actually been on orange and, surprisingly, pink!

    1. Hi Maggie, Thank you! I think Tea Rose is also quite beautiful, though in a very different way. It's a color I think many would find to be a year round shade!

  9. WHA?! The entire line?! Where is this? I know Ulta has a little section but it's no-where near everything. On second thought, I hope I should try to stay off the enabler list :P
