Inspired by The Hunger Games premiere
I'll admit it: I'm a Hunger Games fan. I read the book and saw the movie. When I saw Jennifer Lawrence's Hunger Games Premiere look, I was stunned. First, it was because she was blonde (not brunette as in the movie), second because of her amazing dress, and third because of her makeup. The head to toe combination of gold with sooty blacks was so different from anything else I'd seen on the red carpet this season. It was like a perfect mix of golden girl with femme fatale. I had so much fun writing about it for the Allure Beauty Blogger Awards, I started experimenting with the colors too. Today I'm sharing a color palette of products that I've been using to create my Jennifer Lawrence at Hunger Games inspired look.
The eyes have depth from the contrast between gold and coal black. NARS Exotic Dance (reviewed here) has a great old gold eyeshadow color that is perfect for blending into a opulent golden smoky eye. A paler cooler gold like Bare Minerals can be used for accents, or alone for a milder, brighter eye. NARS Night Clubbing is the perfect black shadow for the occasion since it has golden sparkles. A black pencil eyeliner like Make Up For Ever can be smudged into the shadow as well. During the daytime, I prefer to keep things tame with black eyeliner and just a whisp of gold shadow. For a beautiful example of a gold smoky eye, check out this post by Eye Heart It.
The rest of the face should be kept a natural peachy nude tone. Dior Aurora bronzer (reviewed here) would be the perfect peachy tan flush for the occasion. I've also been playing around with layering cream blushes. In particular, I've been using my Maybelline Dream Bouncy blushes in Coffee Cake and Rose Petal. Coffee Cake is an orangey tan while Rose petal is a peachy pink. I've had a lot of success with layering; it's something I'll definitely continue to experiment with. For lips, I love layering Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color in Bare Pink with NARS Greek Holiday Lip gloss.
I've really been loving this color palette of healthy peachy nude tones with smoky gold eyes. I think the colors are so wearable and translate will into both day and night; it's just a matter of which tones you choose to emphasize!
Thanks for reading! What color palettes have you been using lately? Have you tried pairing gold with black? Are you a Hunger Games fan?
Love, Dovey.
P.S. There are only two chances left to vote in the Allure Beauty Blogger Awards Challenge #2. Voting closes at noon, eastern time on Friday. Thank you so much for all the tweets, votes, likes, and support this week. They really do make a difference as to where I stand!

Not a fan of Hunger Games, I'm probably the only one but I have my reasons. But I am a fan of yours and I do love the colors/products you used for recreating.
ReplyDeletePS, I did vote for you, again teehee
Hi Lexi- Oh, that is interesting! I'd be curious to hear why sometime; I'm mulling over possibilities now. I'm really happy you like my colors, and thank you so much for taking the time to click all those circles and squares to vote!
DeleteI couldn't have made a better choice (lipstick), the colour represents her very well. Dior Aurora pulls surprisingly not as rosy as on me, I like the result on your skintone way better! I am loving my guerlain pucci palette right now, the weather is too cloudy to make those colours pop :/ (all the summer collections are out but the sun is missing, so weird, lol). I haven't found my HG gold eyeshadow yet but I love gold and black <3
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of The Hunger Games till the film came out, I do like seeing Jennifer Lawrence in the media as she has a healthy appearance rather than thin to the point of illness.
ReplyDeleteLovely colours in the make-up and I want to track down the Nars palette.
I love that you're my go-to for NARS info! I'm looking into getting a duo but I'm so lost in a sea of NARS! I'm most likely going to purchase Underworld or Tzarine. It's hard to choose!
ReplyDeleteI love your choices for the Hunger Games look. Jennifer Lawrence's makeup was beautiful at the premiere! I still haven't seen Hunger Games though, I really got to get crakin' on that!
What's your colouring, Annick?
DeleteI'm a typical English blonde & my go-to colours at the moment are Paris, Ramatuelle, Madarague and Paramaribo. If you get the chance, get an appointment with a Nars make-up artist as they always suggest colours you would not think of.
I love all the colors!! Super cool palettes!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shoutout, Dovey! I love the colors you chose here - they're exactly the sort of colors I'm feeling lately, too, except I don't have the right lip colors. NARS Greek Holiday looks fabulous - I shall have to check that one out.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Hunger Games. More than I'd like to admit.. but I loved your week 2 submission for Allure! I loved Jennifer Lawrence's look for the premiere and I love the colors you choose for this look (there's a lot of love in this comment, haha). But yes, this color palette is gorgeous! Thanks for putting it together :)
ReplyDeleteOMG NARS Night Clubbing is one of the prettiest black eyeshadow I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about the Hunger Games but this is a lovely palette indeed. Now that I know what you look like, I imagine you rocking the look with a lot of glamour and grace. <3
ReplyDeleteLove all of the shades you chose! They look so flattering and wearable. Greek Holiday is one of my all-time favorite glosses :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about the Hunger Games either, but I agree with Liz - really pretty palette! The NARS shadow shades and gloss both looks gorgeous, and the Bobbi Brown lipstick is lovely. I don't think I've ever tried a Bobbi Brown lipstick, actually! Will have to check out some of the pretty colours on offer next time I visit a counter :)
ReplyDeleteLove the Hunger Games, love this color palette! Pretty much anything with gold, count me in. And you made it sound so appealing, I want to go put it on right now! :)
ReplyDeleteLove Hunger Games! I saw the film before reading the book:( love all the swatches!
