Dior Vernis in Riviera is the object of my obsession this spring. Riviera was released as one of four different Dior nail polish colors in the Spring 2012 of Dior Addict Extreme lipsticks. The moment I pulled Dior Riviera out of the box, it would be a favorite for both spring and summer.

The color of Dior Vernis in Riviera straddles the line between orange, coral, pink, and a hint of red. In different lighting, the color looks quite different. In the fluorescent lighting at work, it appears orange. In the evening light at home, it looks more like a bright pink. Outside in bright light, as in my swatches, it seems like an orange with a hint of red. With such roundabout descriptions, what color do I actually consider Dior Riviera to be? I would call this a hot coral with orange leanings.
Here are a brief set of nail color comparisons. OPI Guy meets Gal-veston is a bright pink coral and you can see that Riviera leans more red-orange for a coral. Dior Vernis in Bikini (reviewed here) is a significantly lighter peach coral. Dior Vernis in Aloha (reviewed here) is just at bright, but definitely more orange than Riviera. When compared side by side, Aloha is much more orange in person. As you can see Dior Riviera is quite bright. It was a challenge photographing it against my typical white background because it the color is so hot. I would say that is a tad more subdued in person than my camera suggests.
I'll recap my thoughts on the formula (you can see more in my Dior Bikini review). The formula is a bit on the thick side, but dries quickly to a nice even finish in two coats. The quick dry is my favorite part of Dior nail polish. I had a complaint with the formula thickness in my Dior Bikini post and felt the same way with Riviera at the time. However, I've noticed that the consistency of the formula has improved over time. It's no longer as thick and spreads more easily. The improvement is mysterious, however I noticed a similar phenomenon when I got Aloha last year. The formula was not ideal in the beginning, but over time improved.
Dior Riviera that has the intensity and feel of a ladylike red, yet it has a contemporary freshness due to the coral and orange tones. I have a definite weakness for colors like this. I might not wear brights on my lips, but they're definitely welcome on my nails.
Thanks for reading! Have you tried Riviera? What is your MVP (most valuable polish) this season? Would you choose bright lips or bright nails?
Love, Dovey.
P.S. If you have a moment, I would love it if you could check out my Allure Beauty Blogger Awards entry here and vote (if you like what you see!) I also have the links in my sidebar for easy access. Thank you so much for all the support this week!
These are all beautiful! Riviera is on my wishlist :) I think my MVP this season is Dior St. Tropez, though! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Larie, I can definitely see St. Tropez as your MVP :) What a beautiful color!
DeleteGorgeous colours, Dovey! Riviera has been added to my wishlist, too! Along with St. Tropez. My MVP this season would have to be Chanel's June, but I'm also loving some bright pinks, oranges and corals that I have from Leighton Denny!
ReplyDeleteThank you Nat! I loved your recent post with Chanel June :)
DeleteWhat gorgeous colours! I've yet to own any Dior polishes! Need to give them a try
ReplyDeleteThank you Ricquetta!
DeleteGorgeous post :)
ReplyDeleteNeed to get my hands on Dior Bikini when the summer collection finally launches here!
Hi Sylvie, thank you! I hope summer launches soon!
DeleteI also have those 2 dior nail polsihes and love them! I have to say, they have the most luxury nail polsih brush I've seen. very good quality.
ReplyDeleteHi Claire - yay, I'm glad you love them too. They do have such a nice formula and brush!
DeleteSometimes I choose bright nails AND bright lips (if I want to get all matchy-matchy) but usually I focus on one or the other. My favorite nail polish that came out this spring/summer is probably Laura Mercier Cabana. Not quite as bright as Riviera, but a lovely coral shade. Riviera looks fiery, but feminine. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi Danielle- thanks for the insight. I think a bright lip and nail would look festive. You've reminded me about Cabana; every time I see the color I love it--- it's one of the best this season too!
DeleteThis is beautiful--but I have SO many dupes that I just can't justify buying it. Bikini, however, will be mine....
ReplyDeleteHi Becca, you do have a point-- there are many polishes that are similar! Bikini is a really beautiful color :)
DeleteOh man, I so regret not getting Aloha while it was available... but they were selling it with a top coat as a duo and I only wanted the polish. Riviera is almost as good. Maybe in the fall if I've been good this summer. Looks lovely on you. :)
ReplyDeleteLiz, this colour does all sorts of amazing things to my skin tone. It's awesome!
DeleteThis is a great shade! I keep looking for THE shade I'm going to buy from Dior which will be my FIRST Dior shade, but I'm being stupidly picky for some reason. This might finally be it! Thanks for giving the comparisons too Dovey, that's really helpful! :)
ReplyDeleteI like all of them :) I'm addicted to red nails and lips :)
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to win Riviera in a contest. I picked Riviera because it is out of my comfort zone, and I am so happy I did! It is my MVP :D of all my polishes. I think I might check out the OPI version as it's more in my price range. Dovey, have you found any other "dupes" for Riviera since writing this post?
ReplyDeleteHi BBN, Wow, that is an awesome win! Riviera is definitely a must have Dior. I haven't seen any recent dupes for the color; Chanel Holiday caught my eye, though it's not the same color.
